In Memory of Georgia

Just a few weeks ago, A Message from Georgia to all WV American Baptist women was shared through the MMM. This post is entitled “In Memory of Georgia” in an effort to memorialize her for all of her service to the WV ABWM. We reached out to Sherry Goldsburg (former WV ABWM President) to share her personal insights and memories of this sweet woman who influenced so many women across the state. Sherry’s beautiful eulogy is below.

In the comments section after the post, you are welcome and encouraged to share your memory of Georgia as well. kc

Georgia Lee (Loughrie) Parsons

August 23, 1944 - October 26, 2024 Link to Obituary

Georgia Parsons was a Godly woman who was a vital part of the WV State American Baptist Women’s Ministries for many years, holding different offices, always giving her all to each one. She was very creative in designing her posters, her displays, performing skits, writing articles, or doing her presentations. She made a trip to Green Lake in 1990 to experience a National ABW event.

She was always seeking information that related to our ministry to better fulfill her offices and enhance the ministry of the women here in West Virginia. Georgia held offices on the Association level and the Local level. Georgia had a great concern for the future of the ABW and worked diligently to promote new ideas and projects. Georgia had a passion for the women, whom she loved dearly. She enjoyed deep and lasting friendships with her ABW friends and many other precious women in her life.

She cared about what was going on in your life. She possessed a kind and gentle spirit. The love of Jesus overflowed from her heart and touched the lives of those around her. She was a “bundle of sweetness”. If you were her friend you were honored and blessed. She truly was a treasure.

Georgia’s Ministry

She enjoyed sharing in the ministry of her church, singing, praying, hosting dinners, and visiting shut-ins. Georgia acted on each opportunity to be the “hands and feet” of Jesus. She was a faithful and obedient Christian who let her light shine to those around her. People could see Jesus in Georgia’s life. She and Lowell shared an amazing love story over sixty years. Besides the Lord and each other, the delights of their lives were their three children, their grandchildren, and their great-grandchildren, whom they truly adored. Her husband, her children, her grandchildren, and a host of other family and friends plus her ABW friends rise up and call her blessed, both here on Earth and in Heaven above. She was the epitome of the Proverbs 31 woman.

Georgia met her last challenge from the Lord with grace and dignity, praising her Lord that she loved so much, speaking of how He blessed her each and every day, and expressing her concern for Lowell and her family. The life she lived was an example of God’s love. May each of us seek to be devoted to God as she was.
