Mexico Mission: The Purpose
It all started with a 36-year-old vision, a broken teacup, an invitation, willing hearts, sacrificial escapes—but—it ended with hopeful anticipations, tea party celebrations, promises of continued prayers, excitement of what comes next and the future of these ladies and their ministries. So many stories to tell and so many ‘Jesus moments’, that we may not get to tell them all, but I can definitely can say that our God was in it all from the beginning to the end. It is he alone that made this whole experience a jaw-dropping adventure and brought it all together as only He can do.
I want to share one aspect of the trip that was awesome and unforgettable for me. The purpose. Little did I know in working with Debbie Myers in planning this trip that it would bring about an historical and monumental move. I have already shared this story once but it is worth sharing again—with a larger lens.
Sunday, the last day of the retreat, six women were appointed to the CICEM’S (Council of Indigenous Christian Evangelicals of Mexico) National Board. This is the first time in their history that women will have a voice and influence in representing women from their 6 regions and 35 churches in CICEM. That weekend was the first national gathering of their leaders and our team was privileged to be a witness to this landmark and monumental event.
I stand amazed of God’s awesomeness. What transpired this day was a result of a 36-year vision of a CICEM pastor’s wife that would someday bring forth women leaders from all their territories to form an alliance to support, encourage, teach, strengthen and build up women in their local churches and communities.
Domestic violence is engrained and prevalent in their culture and is one of the challenges that CICEM is trying to resolve in their churches and communities. I have fallen in love with these women and stand amazed at their strength, courage, and resilience. They will need prayer, love, and encouragement in the months ahead as they establish and navigate their way through so many unknowns and that their faith, trust, and hope in God will remain strong with righteous confidence.
I am also awestruck at our West Virginia team who worked so beautifully together, guided by the Holy Spirit in their songs, workshops, works, words, and deeds to make the women feel loved, special, and valued. My heart is full as I have again witnessed the goodness of our God and his faithfulness!!!
